City of Sails
Auckland is commonly known as the "City of Sails." This gorgeous Polynesian city is recognizable by its famous Sky Tower, a bright torch extending above the Waitemata and Manukau Harbors. There really is something for everyone in Auckland. In a city of nearly 1.4 million residents, the pulse of a growing gay community is quickening. There's a strong sense of Māori pride reflected in extraordinary artwork, landmarks, and community. In 2010 a new LGBT Festival will replace the annual HERO Festival. With crowds of queer and rainbow colored tourists taking to the streets of Ponsonby and K Roads, it's always a good time to have a gay week in New Zealand's colorful metropolis.
